We have an older OM2 backbone that goes to a patch panel. Plugged into the patch panel is another OM2 cable with an ST connector going from the patch panel to an LC connector that plugs into a SFP transceiver on a switch.
We want to upgrade to a new switch that has 40GB QSFP ports. We have a 40GB MPO to 4 x 10 GB LC splitter cable so we can take one of the ports from 40gbps to 4 x 10gbps. The new switch with this QSFP port only supports the splitter as an OM3 cable (I don't think OM2 runs at 40gbps). Could we plug the 10gbps LC end of the splitter cable into the OM2 backbone?
What happens if you connect an OM3 cable to an OM2 backbone? Are they compatible?
Thanks in advance.
