Responsive Carousel

I've been tweaking this template:
Most of it is going well but the carousel isn't behaving quite as I might expect. While the images inside the carousel do seem to be resizing based on browser window dimensions the carousel itself maintains a fixed height. I'd like the carousel to instead maintain an aspect ratio, adjusting its height automatically as needed to ensure the images inside don't get cropped. Is this possible?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

See this link on viewport typography.  Try setting width AND height to ratios of vw.
Here is the official doc

The css part show height is set to auto so you can change that for min-height or max-height
so if all your image have the correct size
min-height: 100px;

Open in new window

or a give a fix value to the height change auto by a value for example height: 300px;

.carousel-inner>.item>a>img, .carousel-inner>.item>img, .img-responsive, .thumbnail a>img, .thumbnail>img {
    display: block;
    max-width: 100%;
    height: auto;
