"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

How many servers do you have?

You should use GPO if you have more than one of a kind. More than one 2008 server and more than one 2012 server.

On server with Windows 2008 you can change settings following this TechNet article, GPO settings are also available:

Configure Timeout and Reconnection Settings for Remote Desktop Services Sessions

Server 2012 is a little bit tricky.

On the RD Session Host server, open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration. To open Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services, and then click Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.

Under Connections, right-click the name of the connection, and then click Properties.

You can make changes from there.

In case you trying to find the tools that used to be available on a server running the RD Session Host. You can stop looking. The tools Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration and Remote App Manager have been removed from the RD Session Host role in Windows Server 2012. Instead, most of the settings can now be configured using the new Server Manager console, or using the new PowerShell module RemoteDeskop. For other settings, you can still use GPO’.s
