Folder Redirection Issue Server 2012

Local folders were previously redirected to a server that is no longer in service; the previous administrator updated the GPO and retired the server
Current File Server is a domain controller running Server 2012 R2
Several users still have local folders being redirected to the legacy server
Running the gpudate command on local PC has not resolved this issue.

Need to redirect these user folders to the new server and maintain their locally cached documents still stored in the local PC cache that points to the now nonexistent server.”

You can change the patch of folder redirection to new folder. More information on folder redirection can be seen on

The policy was setup properly, the issue is that several computers (users) did not migrate redirection after the target folder was moved to the new server, Their folders are currently in a local hidden cache, the local folder properties are still pointing to the legacy server; we are unable to edit those properties

You need to disable an existing policy which is redirecting users to the legacy Server. In folder redirection, we do see some issues while redirecting folders back. In folder redirection you'll see an options to revert the folder redirection. Hope it works.

This may have not been done prior to retiring the old server, there is currently only one group policy object that includes Folder Redirection; only about five users did not update redirection policy
