Active Directory authentication query

Hi,

I have an RDS enviroment in my forest root domain which i want to allow users access into which reside in sub-domain located on a different site which has some poor wan connections.

If users are connecting using credentials from 'Site1.company.local' in the root domain 'company.local' will active directory have to authenticate the users by traversing the poor WAN link to a Domain controller in Site1 or will a domain controller in company.local be able to authenticate the users directly.

regards

For such a slow WAN link microsoft introduced a RODC, the main purpose of RODC is to provide a read operations of AD and to use authenticate users on slow WAN sites without using main site.
