Network Scanning tool to find hosts

Hello, can anyone recommend an network scanning tool to find hosts dead and alive?

I go from client to client and I have used Advanced IP Scanning and it is good but it leaves ip addresses from other locations and I can't figure out how to clear the cache so this doesn't help....

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

if all you want is to check port live hosts then angry ip scanner would do it. it's light weigh and simple, if you need advanced scanning nmap.  keep in mind that host firewalls may block icmp request making appear as down.
