I do a File --> Open and Crystal just sits there

A colleague of mine is using crystal reports 2008, on Windows 7 just as I do.  My Crystal reports works fine.  We don't know why his is not functioning correctly.  FOr example, he does a file --> Open and Crystal reports gives not errors, it just sits there.  We do not get a dialog box to so that you may select where/what directory your file may be located.  Likewise, clicking on the file open icon does nothing.

He is able to do File--> New and connect to the database, obtain tables and connect tables and create a report without issues.  BUT...if he selects File --> Save or File-->Save As,...there is no additional dialog box to allow you to put in the same of the file.

Actually, the Save, Save As, export, mail to, etc...are all greyed out.

Any ideas as to what to do?  Before reinstalling.  I'm wondering if this is a common error by chance?  All the patch levels are good too.  Thank you.

IS Crystal installed on his machine?

Crystal uses several temp folders for reports so he may not have permissions to those.

Any chance that he had second monitor before and not now ?
They wouldn't be greyed out because of a second monitor.  They are greyed because of a lack of permissions.

Is Crystal installed on the machine or are you running this from a network install.

Mlmcc and Vasto,

For starters, my apologies for not getting back to you sooner. I have 2 monitors and I don't have that issue.  I'm thinking that it could be a permissions problem, but in regards to Crystal Reports, is installed on his system as I have Crystal Reports installed on mine also.

Mlmcc, where are the temporary files you mentioned?  You wrote that 'Crystal uses several temp folders for reports so he may not have permissions to those.'  Where may I find them?  And, that could be it.  The environment where we are, we do not have admin rights to our own workstation.  We need to have someone who has admin rights to do installs, de-installs, configs (hw/and all s/w), etc.

To make any modifications to any temporary files (delete or other wise) must be scheduled.  Hopefully, we will be able to view what they look like.  Where else should I be checking?

I know that for what ever reason, I was told that windows variables were set up, which I did not agree with.  I don't have that set up on mine;  I was with the installer as they installed and we just needed to use the default, and I'm working just fine.

Please let me know the temporary files to look for and any place else to check.  Thank you so much.
