trying to preserve formatting when copying commands from a PDF into a Linux file with VIM

for example I want to take a PDF file and copy the contents

text from PDF
and copy it into a linux file with VIM or any other method ( nano?) and preserve the formatting , and tabs

when ever I try this is always moves all the text to the left tab and destroys the formatting

destroyed formatting with all text moved to the left
I am trying to use "set paste: in vim and "copy with formating " in adobe with no luck

the end result i am looking for it to copy text from a PDF right into a Linux file and keep the tabs !!

thanks !!!!!!!

Copying from Adobe may be the issue here, just try copying (no formatting). If I paste some text in vim, I get it with formatting, as expected. Can you try copying first, then in vim, press the i key (for insert mode) and then pasting what you've copied? Doing that gets me formatted text in vim.
