installing Ubuntu 14.4 on Tosihba satellite U845 S406 laptop

during the install of Ubuntu 14.4, it does not see the hard drive to load the OS. I have spent hours on the Toshiba website but can not find any help. Does any one have a solution?

Personally I'd rather install another distro than Ubuntu, as the Unity desktop is useless and the OS slow. One I would recommend is MakuluLinux. Currently the XFCE version runs very well and it is based on Ubuntu. Besides that, sometime next week a new version is scheduled to be released which uses Cinnamon as desktop, and which has been very highly polished so it can be made to look and feel like Windows 7, only much nicer.

Anyway, to look at the issue, when you have booted to your Linux DVD or USB stick, open GParted. What does it show as your disks? It looks like the notebook includes a small SSD, maybe that is causing your issues.

It does not show any disk or devices. clicking on search does nothing.
I will download MakuluLinux and try that. I was able to load Susa 10.1 but the xserver would not load.

I downloaded the MakuluLinux and it stalled it with no problems. It found all the drives. Just had to designate the root partition and is working good. The browser seams a little slow but all else is fine. Thanks
