I saw that an rpm spec contains predeployment and post scripts. But couldnt locate the initscript corresponding to it.

It is just file in /etc/init.d
In general you dont need RPM pre/post scripts.

but when we install an rpm it also installs an init script for it automatically ?
You need to execute chkconfig --add after putting file in /etc/init.d
Fedora project maintains RPM and all the related documentation, it is a long but fruitful read.
