Email problem (ost files) moving domain from Godaddy Office 365 to full Microsoft O365. Pst's the only answer and manual import?

Here's my scenario.
GoDaddy use a cut down version of Office 365 (no Litigation Hold and other features) so I need to transfer the domain to a full Microsoft Office tenant that has the rich admin controls.

I have a 30+ users, lots of email, lots of folders (5Gb each?). Once I start the domain transfer the only place that email will be accessible is the local ost files.

Users will then reconnect to the new accounts once I have set them up (same email adddresses as before) and no doubt the old ost's will be inaccessible with the "user.ost cannot be accessed because it has been configured for use with a different mailbox".
Is my only answer to export to pst before the move and then manually move every folder back into the newly created ost and let it sync back to the new O365?

Sounds like a manual nightmare... Is this my fate for the entire weekend? We are using Office 2010/2013/2016 on subscription
Thanks
David.

Hi David,

There shouldn't be any differences between the Office 365 being resold by GoDaddy and the Office 365 that Microsoft provide.

Are you sure it's not Hosted Exchange with GoDaddy at the moment? If it is there is a way to migrate.

If it is Office 365 then I would suggest opening a support ticket with Microsoft for their advice.

You shouldn't need to transfer your domain anywhere either. At most you may need to update MX records if it's hosted Exchange

Hi David, I'm afraid there is a difference - anything not sold directly by Microsoft is apparently the 'Reseller' version of O365 without the full admin console.

When I told the GoDaddy tech the reason why I wanted to release the domain from their O365 he said "Yep that's the usual reason, that and Sharepoint limitations"

I have saved all email to pst's and the users will be able to add a second account of the same email address as it links to a new mailbox. They can then decide if they want to move folders from old mailbox to new mailbox by keeping their old ost alongside the new one for the time being.

Thank you
David
Have a look at MigrationWiz by BitTitan. It allows you to migrate providers without having to import pst files.

Not sure if they do office 365 to Office 365 though. Worth an email to them. It's a paid solution but well worth it over the time saved.
