Need a secure connection between home laptop and my company's Windows 7 LAN

Our company's LAN is running Windows 7 and I would like to be able to log-in and do work from my laptop at home (also running Windows 7) using a secure connection.  My thought is to use an Internet connection.  Seeking a product or tool that provides a secure connection, that is not exceedingly technical to implement (well documented) for the cost conscious.  I've been doing some reading about Citrix and VPN however, I'm not well versed nor experienced with that approach but would attempt it if this proved to be the best solution.  Would appreciate an expert suggestion or a site link where I could do further research.  Thanks.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you using a static IP address a work?

If so I would probably dedicate a spare PC for the Vpn bridge

You mean you want to secure you home internet so that you can connect office network and work safe side right? if so then try to change the router name  and unique password, also use security wpa2 wpa2 is more than secure wep. Also check this article too

I am sure you company using some firewall and security tool to protect there environment. If no then better try to use netscaler for citrix side and firewall tools/.

Are you saying you have a computer at work that you'd like to access remotely?  A simple and secure option would be something like GoToMyPC.  I've been using that and GoToAssist for many years.  They have a free trial you can use to test.

I would say you have a couple of options:

First you could  install something like TeamViewer or LogMeIn onto each machine.

You could investigate something like a full-blow VPN solution. There are lots out there and you might even find you have something you can use at your network border already.

Another option would be to consider putting in jump server with WIndows Server Remote Desktop Services installed. Users could connect to this, and then from there, RDP into their own machine. It can be secured with certificates and might actually be the simplest method. One port opened on your firewall(s), one connection in etc.
