The article covers R2. The procedure for completing the operation will not change regardless of the version of the OS you have. The only thing that would be different is the ability to use certain features between the versions.

just to clarify, when adding the role, as it states anywhere access which is not on server r2 is it remote access role I install or remote desktop services.

2003 Server never had that. SBS 2003 did. &nbsp;That feature had been a small business server class system feature for years. &nbsp;In 2012, it's part of the Essentials role you can add - note there are significant prerequisites for that role.

Remote Access to Server 2012 R2
