Printers OU in AD

Is there a default location for printer in Active Directory 2012. I can search and find printers that exist on our network, but can't find them in any OU, if they have one.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Printers are not added to any OU and no OU is specific, or created, for a printer by default. It must be done manually.

Some printers have AD integration for access (I'm not talking about AD LDAP queries for home folders and allowed features, which is fairly common) and you would create an OU for the printers specifically. By creating a group called 'Printers' or 'Color Printing' or whatever you want, you can then add that Group to the Printers OU, add Users to that Group, and use GPO to control who has access to which printers via AD.

I did this in large environments with Xerox BW and Color devices - using the OU, printer Groups (a group for each type of printer), and GPO, I was able to roll out BW and Color access and restrictions in no time at all.
