Is it possible to use corporate users to two smtp servers ie one mail hosted by google business apps and other being the in-house exchange 2013 server. Want to use both servers for the time being which eventual migration from google to exchange will happen.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Domain a and b , arrive at 2 servers? One server? Or you mean as outgoing?

While you COULD setup two MX records one for each service, your mail would be mixed up terribly.

What you can do is setup everyone on Exchange, then change where the delivery will be.  Users can then reference their old e-mail in - and even send email from - Gmail while all new mail gets delivered to exchange.  Then you can leisurely copy / move / migrate the Gmail mailboxes in house.

SENDING is not a problem - RECEIVING is the problem.

One domain and currently hosted with google. Need to move to in-house on exchange 2013 and configure dual delivery from google. Just exploring whether i can two smtp servers ie certain set of users can existing smtp from google and certain users can use the new smtp so that i can assure that everything is working and shut down the google server. I know it is a long short and as experts there might be a way.

SMTP is used to SEND mail.  It also receives, but which one receives depends on your MX records.

What is the purpose of maintaining both GApps and Exchange?  It sounds like you're working with a co-existence scenario, in which case your best option may be to just use a third-party migration tool like Migration Wiz to pre-stage the majority of all mailbox data while email is still flowing to GApps, then in one weekend switch MX records to the Exchange server and migrate the remaining 10% of mailbox data (for instance).

Yes, you can have both Google Apps and in-house Exchange running in parallel.  There are two options:

1) Dual delivery:  Email is delivered (according to your mx records) to one of the services and is forwarded to the other using a shadow domain.  In this setup, all users have accounts on both systems and email is delivered to both. You can configure either system as primary, depending on your needs.  Here is the starting point for configuring dual delivery.

2) Split Delivery:  Email is delivered to Google Apps, where it goes through anti-virus scanning.  Email to users on Exchange are routed to the exchange server; the rest go to the gmail inboxes.  In this scenario, users have mailboxes on Exchange or Google Apps, but not both. HerHere is the link for split delivery.

Finding a good partner to do this for you, or at least provide guidance and discuss the pros/cons of the different dual delivery options vs split delivery may be helpful and save you time/money/frustration in the long run.
