Fibre Optic Cable more resistant to lightning?

For many years now, we have suffered form blown equipment every summer due to running copper wire between buildings. I am looking at Fibre Optic as a solution to this. Is that a good idea.

Yes. Fiber optic is totally resistant to surges that result from lighting.

Ran into the same thing in Florida many years ago. Replacing the buried copper with fiber solved it.

For today it is the only right decision. This cable is not only resistant to radiation and physical damage. You need to choose the right type of cable , depending on the method of installation (on air/cable ducting), the length of the сable line (MM/SM), the bandwidth requirements (OM2/OM3) and further expansion (counts of fiber). And in accordance with the type of cable and cable line length select apropriative adapter (mediaconverter, SFP etc.).

do you already have switches/routers with SFp ports? check the distances you have in the runs and see what type SFp you can use. This will dictate the type of cable you need.
