Delete old emails from Android

Whenever I re-start my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 running Android 4.4.2 the status lists about 20 emails with the message Sending Failed. These emails are very old and were intended to be sent from an email account that is no longer active. If I try to click on them it takes me to the Outbox but there are no emails in the outbox. Is there any way I can delete these emails?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This doesn't address the actual issue at all, but have you tried recreating the account on your phone and removing the ActiveSync device on the server?

I was hoping there would be an easier way like locating the folder when these emails are stored. But it seems like not.
