I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There isn't enough detail in the question to give you a good answer.  Please explain exactly what you are trying to do and what "previous efforts" were attempted.

Do you want stretch banners on all pages?

it's advised that you have your own similar images in your own site rather than referring and pointing the the images or resources that are in a remote site such as, so that to reduce the dependencies of your site to other other factors.

To have a good artwork for your own site, it would need some effort to beautify it, perhaps with some good web designing works.

To have similar template for your pages, you probably need a comercial tool for HTML/page editing, so that similar design can be replicated easily, and of course some server side programming languages do provide similar concepts so that some similar design or codes can be shared or included under the same architecture.

I should have phrased the question this way. I want to add a "Banner" to all my web pages except the home page, ie a widget, or fixed-container. The container will have a photo of  trees, and be full width of the page.

This isn't going to be particularly easy for you because you are going to be fighting the existing theme every step of the way.  Unless the theme is designed to have a stretch header on interior pages from the beginning, you are going to have issues.  For example, do you even have a widget area available in the header?  Is it set to be the full-width or is it the left and right portions as shown?  If we start adding new code to the header, what else will break?

That being said, what you probably want to do here is modify the theme's header.php file and add a new div inside the header div, after the closing </div> of this one:

<div class="scanlines-header">
<?php if !( is_front_page() ) { ?>
Add the new div here with the image
<?php } ?>

Open in new window

The !( is_front_page() ) will show the div on all pages except the front page of the theme. However, the above may not depends on exactly how your theme is constructed and I can't really see it from the user side.  The logic is correct, though.
