IMAP issues

Hi - I setup a school a couple of months ago with Rackspace email using IMAP, and I feel like its been nothing but trouble since. For some reason, repeatedly, users have issues where if I go into the IMAP folders (using Outlook 2013) and unsubscribe to the junk email folder, it seems to reset itself, and a few days later will show as a "subscribed" folder and start syncing with the junk email folder in webmail. I'm aware that the "junk email" folder cant be deleted from outlook 2013, but I'm able to delete it from webmail. Then, I'll login to Rackspace webmail, DELETE the junk email folder, make sure that Outlook is NOT syncing/subscribed to the junk email folder. Things will be ok for several days, and then I'll get complaints again that the junk email folder in Outlook is going crazy by showing anywhere from 1 to 700 junk emails and it constantly fluctuates up and down. Then I'll check to see if the junk email folder shows as subscribed, and it DOES, as well as logging into webmail and seeing the junk email folder has recreated itself again! I have no idea why this keeps happening, but any suggestions would be appreciated!

Which spam filter do you use? AVG Cloud Care a brilliant price for charities and schools. Their spam filter works really well. We use it in several schools with great success.

Also, from within Outlook, Right click the Junk folder. Click on IMAP Folders, click Query and a list of all the folders will appear. Click on the Junk Folder, then with it highlighted, click on Unsubscribe.

This tells Outlook not to sink the folder, leaving all the junk mail on the Rackspace server. you will still have the problem of Junk amassing on the Rackserver. The AVG suggestion above would alibi ate the issue.

We use the rackspace spam filter, it works great, and cloudcare as our AV. Thanks for the suggestion, but the issue doesnt seem to be with spam, seems the problem is more with Outlook resetting the unsubscribed folders. Like I mentioned above, I've done the unsubscribing etc, but If i unsubscribe the junk folder in outlook so it doesnt sync with webmail, it seems that days or maybe a week later, the IMAP junk folder re-subscribes itself to the sync with the server.
Try tightening up thevRackspace spam filter.

Do you get this issue if you use a different version of Outlook e.g. 2010?

Why are you using IMAP rather than Exchange. Rackspace offer hosted Exchange? If staff are not hot decking, do you get the same issue if you use pop?
I would set everything so it dumps the spam instead of sending it to an outlook folder. If i did that, I think the instructors  may worry that a legit email never came thru.

Not sure - havent heard complaints from everyone - i could test that though.

Using IMAP vs exchange solely because of the pricetag. Exchange/Rackspace is $8/mailbox, and with 170 mailboxes....  :)
What about the question regarding POP?
Using IMAP mostly for the synchronization, and backup of folders within the inbox, instead of having to backup pst files etc. If only IMAP would sync contacts! :)
