Exchange 2013 Distribution list issues

Having an issue with our exchange 2013 server where we have been updating distribution lists, but the address book isn't showing all the updates.

Early today I modified a distribution list and put one of my external emails (which I created as an external contact in AD) as a member of this distribution list. Looking at the distribution list in Exchange ECP it shows me as a member. Looking in AD at that distribution list shows me as a member as well.

However, looking at that distribution list from outlook doesn't show me in there at all, and looking from OWA does not show me either.

However, I have another distribution list that in AD that has 3 users as a member of it. Exchange ECP shows those 3, and AD shows those 3 as members. However, OWA only shows 1 of those users as a member, and outlook shows 2 of those users member.

It's like we have some sort of communication issue, but everything seems to be working fine with the exception of these distribution list updates. We recently migrated from 2010 to 2013 exchange and we're only running 1 server. The other 2010 server has been retired and is no longer in the picture.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Also, I would like to add that most of these new external contacts and distribution list modifications were done via AD and not in the ECP if that matters.

I just modified a distro list via ECP and those changes seem to be fine. Do distribution lists and external mail contacts have to be created / modifed through ECP and not AD?
you need to wait for atleast 24 hours for updating the GAL. Exchange has its own task to update. Else you can try to run below command to update forcefully.

Update-GlobalAddresslist -Identity GALname

and restart the file distribution service on all cas servers

I'll try restarting the file distribution service but these changes were done last week and I also force updated the oab already.

Just as an update, I just went through and deleted the new external contacts I created through  AD, and re-created them in exchange ECP panel then re-added them back to the DL groups and they show up fine.

I guess Exchange doesn't like pulling info from AD.
