Templates to migrate from vfp to WPF

Hi Experts

I'm planning to migrate a VFP app to WPF. I know it's a very hard task.

Do you know examples of WPF forms that could serve as templates to start this task with the the more common
controls like tabs, combos, tabpages, etc. that connects to DB ?

Maybe I could complete understand part-to-part and after make it work in conjunction (beeing a little naive).

Thanks in advance!

Just my opinion: Don't migrate the app just the data and write a new (.NET or whatever more modern tool you select) application from the scratch.

No tool which could convert VFP to WPF exists. You may write one but language differences and concepts are huge. It could be possible if you are using some simple VFP framework for your app. And, of course, to create such conversion tool for one application is not effective.

Other options could be: FoxInCloud, Xbase++, Lianja. FoxInCloud is VFP running on a server, other two languages are reasonably compatible to VFP so the port is not so difficult as .NET variant.

Hello Pcelba

My strategy is:  I intend to understand how every control works in WPF in conjunction to DB. So I asked for good templates of WPF (no conceptual connection to VFP in this point).

After that start to mount forms that 'clones' VFP functionality, only seem VFP appearence (visual aspects) and DB, not the code and  then get the WPF forms done, step by step, form by form.

No way out, I need to hardly study WPF aspects do have the task done.

You should first get aquanted anf familiar with the way WPF works it is totally different than Windows Forms that you are used to. First you have to learn to walk, then learn to run and then train for the olympics.

Rsrs ...very good David ! maybe a Triple Jumper in the future....

So you probably know this page.
You may also look here or here.

Codeplex is also very good resource for the WPF stuff. One example is here.

OTOH, Windows and Windows desktop especially is declining. Multiplatform applications drive today's world and my advice is "Don't focus on one OS".
