cannot connect with root to my ubuntu using filezilla

hi all

using filezilla i can connect connect to my ubuntu server with a regular user. (typing the username and password, FTP, port 21)
but when i use root to connect (typing the username and password, FTP, POrt 21) i cannot below is the feedback of filezilla.
i am sure of the root password

Status:      Connecting to 192.168.110.131:21...
Status:      Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status:      Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Command:      USER root
Response:      331 Please specify the password.
Command:      PASS *****
Response:      530 Login incorrect.
Error:      Critical error: Could not connect to server

Please check the file "/etc/ftpusers" on Ubuntu.

If it contains a line

root

(I'm rather sure it does) then root is denied access and you must either remove the line containing "root" (old format) or,
if there is also a line containing just an asterisk ("*") explicitly allow access (new format) with

root allow

Please be careful - allowing root access via unencrypted FTP is generally considered a security risk.

Ubuntu does, for sake of security, not allow  root logins via password from any source. But ssh via pubkey is working.

So you can create an ssh key pair and use ssh with public key authentication to connect via filezilla. Here is some documentation on how to use filezilla with key auth.
