Appending two different queries- Business Objects Universe

Hello Experts,

I have built two queries using two different Universe. One Universe will give me data for the year 2015 and another data will give data for 2016.

Our fiscal calendar for 2015 ( October 2014 to September 2015). Hence I have the complete data for the year 2015 in one "Universe" .

For the year 2016 I will get the data from another Universe, which will get refreshed everyday.

I am doing an analysis where I need to compare the 2015 and 2016 data together.

Experts, please let me know if there is way to append 2015 and 2016 data using queries created by two different universe.

The data for 2015 remains constant, the data for 2016 should get append as soon its refreshed. Please advise if there is a way to append this data.

Thanks.

WHat version of Business Objects?

You can't append the queries but you could create a report that uses information from both queries.
YOu can have a report that has 2 queries.  One from each.
Is there a field you could merge on?

I assume you are trying to compare sales by product or quarter or some other common field.

I am using the below mentioned version:

SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.1 Support Pack 6
Version: 14.1.6.1702

Yes, i have a common field to merge on. But unfortunately  one query has data at transaction level and another have data at customer level, though all the other fields match i cannot merge the data. Thanks for your help.

ARe you saying the 2015 data is summarized at the customer level and you don't have any insight into the transactions or the products for a customer?

But, for the same data we have another data source which is cognos 10.2. Here also we have two different packages one for 2015 and another for 2016. In this case we have transaction level data in both the packages. Would you be able to help me in merging or appending data of 2015 or 2016 and then calculate average for the same. Please advise.

The Cognos data should be fairly simple.  You would create 2 queries, one against each source, pulling in the appropriate data.

Merge them on the common fields

Your averages would need to be done in formulas (variables).
For sales quantity something like this

(Sum([Q1.Qty]) + Sum([Q2.qty])) / (Count(Q1.Qty]) + Count([Q2.qty]))

I wish it is fairly simple in Cognos 10.2. However there is no merge option in Cognos.

I already have two queries for two different packages. But I am not sure how to merge or append the data using unique common filed.you help me merging the data.

It would great help if

Thanks,
Ganesh

The merging is done in the report not in the database

I know, I have already created two different queries from two different packages. I am stuck up in joining the data and create a new query with both 2015 and 2016 data. Could you help me joining the data?

Thanks,

What reporting tool are you using?

When you mentioned the universe I assumed you were using WebI.
IN WebI you create the queries then when you start creating the report you can merge the queries through a menu.

May be a small confusion here.... As i mentioned earlier i can't use webi reports.. One query has data at transaction level and another have data at customer level, though all the other fields match i cannot merge the data.

Anyways thanks for your help!

I thought you said you had a different set of sources with transaction level data in both.
