Premiere Pro CC 2015 - export to .M4V
Hi
I need to export my Premiere movie sequences into the .m4v format. This eludes me. It's difficult to find any documentation on the internet.
I'm able to choose the H.264 Blu-ray which is the only setting that will provide the .m4v format.
But once the export is done Premiere Pro CC 2015 has produced 4 files:
[filename].ac3
[filename].m4v
[filename].m4v.xmp
[filename]m4v.xmpses
This is not what I wanted, I wanted just one file which I can upload to my Wordpress website which requires .m4v movie files in order to be playable.

Hi Dan - no the file is not playable, not locally on my mac, or via browser, once uploaded :(
OK.
Change Format from "H.264 Bluray" to "H.264" then try again.
You'll also notice a drastic reduction in size.
And sync your export settings with the sequence settings. You have a NTSC sequence, at 29.97 fps. Make sure you export it the same, not at 23.976 fps.

Hi Dan, when I go to H.264 I'm not able to export to the desired file format - I can't choose .M4V - only .MP4.
As far as Premiere is concerned, m4v is video only.
So if you include audio, it will export as mp4.
Uncheck "Export audio" and the resulting file will be a .m4v

OK - if that's the solution, then unfortunately it's not good enough :(
Is it a limitation on Premiere Pro CC 2015?
If I export to an .MP4 file, I can then run that file in Quicktime, and then export it to a .M4V file, with sound and all.
I was just hoping that Premiere Pro could do that in one step.

M4V was specifically created so Apple can use DRM with video.
It's a closed format so its support outside the Apple ecosystem is very low.

So it's impossible to export a complete file with video and sound to .M4V format?
And no plugins or anything can change that?

No plugins that I know of.

Is "Sequence 06_1.m4v" not playable?
You can ignore the other files if the .m4v plays OK.
At 15Mbps it might prove too big for web. Ask some friends to play it to make sure it plays smoothly and the wait time until buffering is complete is not too high.
HTH,
Dan
