Ipod won't respond

Hi, I have an old iPod that use to work fine.  I had not used it for several months and I tried it yesterday and it is dead.  I charged it all night and tried again but all i've got is a black screen.  I tried holding the top button and the center button simultaneously but nothing happened.  Does anybody have any suggestions as to what else I could try? Thanks

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sounds like the battery never charged

1. Your battery is dead and will not recharge
Go to Apple Store they can replace it for you
2. The charger unit is bad do yo have another method to recharge the iPod with try that
