How to stop HP procurve from automatically selectively root bridge in stp

Hello,

I have a 2530 pro curve networked environment with 5 switches. The main switch I have set a manual entry  with a priority of 0 for the root bridge. On another switch, which connected to the root via fiber, after wiping the configuration, the switch is automatically setting itself to the root as well. The issue is,  the connect between the two are down, and Im not sure if Im troubleshooting a STP issue or a physical connection issue. I'd like to resolve the stp dual root bridge issue first.
Should the spanning-tree priority 1 cmd work?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

One way would be to set higher STP value on switch you don't want to be root to prevent switch from become root bridge, second way would be (if you don't have redundant links between switch that you want to prevent to be root bridge and other switches) to filter BPDU on port connected to that switch (both switches than would be root bridges).
(config)# spanning-tree <port> bpdu-filter
