transfer music/files from iPhone 5 to iMac

I have a lot of music on my iPhone 5 and want to transfer it onto my new iMac.  I prefer not to use the very possessive iTunes which decides what I can or cannot transfer, even if I bought the music from another source.
Any suggestions for a reliable transfer program?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi, You should be able to make a backup of the entire Itunes libraries folder and just copy that to a USB Stick, plug it into your imac and transfer off the USB.
Install Itunes and import.
If you wish to convert them to mp3 and be free of Itunes
Video-Convert audio file to .mp3 using itunes
Then copy these new mp3 to a USB stick please browse stores in your country as I live in Australia.
