Backup Exec 2012 settings

I have 5 servers and I back them up to tape one per day. (I change the tape once per week)
I have a feeling that when each one backs up it overwrites the last backup.
1. How do I check this? (test restore?)
2. How do I get each backup to append not overwrite?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I hope you configured the backup to DISK then to TAPE? if so, edit the duplicate job. You will be able to see few options 1) Overwrite Protection Period : I.e -7 days 2) Append Period - Infinite Append 3) Backup Options - Storage for each job - Append to Media, overwrite if no appendable media is available. I would suggest to select "Append to Media, overwrite if no appendable media is available".

You need to understand what you need about overwrite protection. Have a look at this article and select the desired option you need.

Good luck :)
