lpr option -l very slow printing on laserjet Centos 6

Hi,
Apparently the network printer is properly configured by jetdirect in the operating system and process correctly plain text files .

However, files with PCL secuences takes a few minutes to be processed using option -l.

-l = Specifies  that the print file is already formatted for the destination and should be sent without filtering. This option is equivalent to "-oraw".

Printer is a laserjet HP 1606DN.

Any idea?

Thanks

The LJ 1606 is not a PCL printer. Instead, it is a host-based printer, where the graphics engine in the OS does the conversion from page to dots on the paper. Specs for the printer are here. So I assume the conversion from PCL is done on your Linux system, and I assume the slowdown is in that conversion. Is it any faster if you print just plain text without any PCL commands?

I would never recommend a host-based printer for a Linux system. The best choice is PostScript, failing that, PCL5 is the next choice.
