Exchange 2007 SCR cluster reduce number of mailboxes from 2 to 1

We are migrating to Office 365, currently not all mailboxes are removed and we are running in a hybrid configuration (Exchange Server 2013 for the hybrid).  We are also moving data centers and I want to remove my current environment from 5 server to 3 as per below:

1.  Reduce mailbox servers from 2 to 1
2.  Reduce CAS/HUB from 2 to 1 (this is not an issue as I can uninstall role on one)
3.  ISA server (no issue as I will move it along)

I need to know how could get rid of one mailbox server and the cluster.  I know how to do this with CCR cluster but I am in a SCR cluster.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If you ask my suggestion, first you complete the migration and then you can perform the decommission. However if you still want to remove it. You can disable SCR, then remove db's and using add/remove program you can decom the server scr server.

Amit,

I am being very cautious.  In my case, the cluster is in the same site and I just want to remove the passive node.  They are part of the same domain and same site.  What you are suggesting, does it apply in my case.

As I advised already, better to complete the project and then work on decommission. As far as removing server from clusters. Steps are similar for every environment. You need to review risk and other aspect as per your environment.

Management has decided to reduce on CAS/HUB server but the passive mailbox server will not be removed as they are cautious and do not want to take any risks.
