Apple OS update to El Capitan, issues

I was helping someone else to update their OS.

For some reason it wouldn't let them download it using their own Apple ID (in the Apple Store), kept giving a generic error. So I logged in with my Apple ID and it worked, downloaded & installed fine.

Now, whenever they want to get updates using their own Apple ID it says "Update Unavailable with this Apple ID - This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

This is extremely frustrating. How can I allow it to work with their ID or to connect the upgrade to their ID instead of mine?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Have you tried changing the Apple ID back to the original?

It's  true as it reads the purchase history of their as that is loged in. U can also download the dmg of the update file from Apple.com/support and update the OS.

Alan - that won't work because both IDs are assigned as Apple IDs.

Rahul -  I don't see the OS download, only the update.

Try using another local account and then sign up to his ID to get the OS download.  Maybe some preference got corrupted and needs to be cleaned up.

None of the above worked. Apple gave me a redemption code, and that worked to reinstall the application that required update with the proper User ID.
