default website IIS

What does the default website look like in IIS, and does it have any real functionality or does it just list the version etc. Is it an actual site that can be accessed?

If your not using IIS for anything on that server uninstall it. If you are disable the default site would be the best choice, mind you I am not an IIS expect. My default site is blocked on my Exchange server. Only the OWA site works.

Hi,

Default website will get create automatically when you install IIS. same as what its name says, You can delete and replace default website when you create new websites under IIS. It will have all the definitions and permissions bydefault. So, you can create new website based on this default one.

The main reason to keep default website is because there are too mahy details one has to get right when creating IIS a website from scratch. The referral can be easier if you have one in IIS.

Ist just an image with IIS on it.  It provides no functionality other than being the first web site on the server after IIS is installed.

As stated above, just delete it and the default applications pools that are installed by default.

I will always recommend this, especially if you don't use them, since the app pools are set to start automatically with IIS.  They're a waste of server resources.

Configuring new app pools and web site objects is not at all complicated.  Microsoft's default configuration of the root server object will be inherited when the new pools & sites are built.
