Windows 2012 RDP Remote Desktop disconnects immediately

I have remote server I RDP to. Windows 2012.
RDP used to work but doesn't now. I think it is a windows update (last time I logged on was windows updated).
I can't physically go to server...it's in different city

It's not password; if I type wrong password it fails. If I type correct password it just disconnects immediately

Please advise

ASKER

note I don't get response to PING...but pretty sure server is On and it's still physically connected. perhaps Defender was one of the updates

It could be stuck at a point of shutdown where the various services you are trying to connect to are off.
Is there anyone that can just verify what is showing on the screen?

The ping maybe blocked by a firewall, but if you have been able to ping in the past then I would through that one out the window.

The system maybe stuck at something that needs human intervention.
What brand server?
Do you have ilO or something similar to get directly on the system not the OS
Are you sure the issue was the server and not the connecting PC?  Did you try connecting from another PC?  I have seen where the RDP client 'acts up' and a simple reboot of the PC or restarting a service will resolve when this happens.  Quite common if using Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection Manager tool.
Nice call. I experienced this as well
You may wish to invest in SolarWinds DameWare Mini Remote Control.  It will allow you to install it on the server remotely and gives your remote console connection.  Try the evaluation copy and see if you can connect to the server.  Download it from http://www.dameware.com/
things started working again by themselves!
I would supect the client and not the server.
fixed itself - no idea why !
