# Excel 2010 formula to determine amount based on percentage change

I want to set up a formula in excel to determine the price of an item based on known percentage
Ex:

in cell A1 I have my cost = 60
A2 = sell price
A3 = Desired %
I want to be able to play around/change with the percentage in A3 and the formula will give me the sell price. Thanks

Hi thao-nhi,

If I understand you correctly, in A2 put this formula:
=A1*A3
IMPORTANT: A3 should be formatted as a %.

For example, if:
A1 = 60
A3 = 110%
then A2 will automatically be calculated as: 66
which is 60 + 10%.

Is that how you want it to work?

But if you prefer to write 10% (instead of 110%) to represent a 10% markup, and -10% (instead of 90%) to represent a 10% markdown, then put this in A2:
=A1*(1+A3)
