Best Color Laser Printers for cost effective refilling of toner?

I would like to purchase a color laser for the home office and the kids (for school projects).

I do like OkiData but I am willing to try other brands.
I would like to know which brands you were most efficiently able to refill toner and where parts (that need replacement) like fusers are inexpensive.  Also a really nice print out would be great too.  Does this exist?
Thank you for your time in advance!

I'm impartial to HP LaserJets for monochrome (I have a LaserJet 4350dtn and P2055x at home). I've never tried a colour LaserJet however I would imagine them to be just as good. At work we have a Lexmark colour laser (not sure which model) and it's quite the pain. For the HP, fusers can be a bit pricey however if you get one of the high end printers it will probably last a while (the one in my 4350 is good for 225,000 pages) and toner for these is dirt cheap if you're okay with using non-OEM (black toner for the 4350 costs $50 for non-OEM and does 20,000 pages per cartridge). Hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply!  I really need someone who has experience with a specific model of color laser and who they order the toners from.

We have found the Xerox Colour Cube to be a good medium volume colour printer that is economical and uses clean easy to load colour cartridges.

do you refill the cartridges on your own by purchasing the powder in bulk in pouring it in?

The cartridges are a solid cartridge and you can pick them up in your hand cleanly and load them as needed. Very easy to do and very clean.

do you purchase the toner in the states?  a particular vendor?

We get them from Xerox. They are specific to the machine so that is what we use. Cost per print is low.

oh this is not a laser printer?

It is not Laser but it is also not Ink Jet. It is a Xerox invention. We got rid of a Dell Colour Laser and never looked back.

I agree with John, the Colorqube printers are great. They're fast, clean and economical. They are what's called "solid ink printers". The ink is sold and it gets melted and then jetted onto the paper. They were developed by Tektronix before Xerox took them over. For home use it is overkill though.

Personally I use a Fuji Xerox CM305DF. This is a laser. I use 3rd party cartridges, which cost me about AUD 100 for a set of 4 colours, rated at 3000 pages per cartridge, i.e. About 3 cents per colour page. I am very happy with it. As with all lasers, it does have additional components that need replacing (fuser, imaging unit etc) but these last long enough that for home use you will never replace them. For example, imaging units are rated at 30,000 pages.

In the US it is available as the Xerox Phaser 6505
