external jar files have to be unjarred when running code from command line outside of eclipse

I am making a simple java class that connects to redshift database.  In eclipse I add a reference to it and it compiles the class and runs the code.

Outside of eclipse when I run the class from it's bin folder location on command prompt. The code doesn't work and cannot find the external jar file

so what I do to make this work is copy the external jar file in the bin folder of eclipse and then unjar , the code then works fine

why do i have to do all this

The code doesn't work and cannot find the external jar file
That's because you haven't got it in the classpath

why do i have to do all this
Using an IDE will hide certain complexity from you, which is why i personally recommend people do not use them until that complexity has been mastered. An essential part of that is a full understanding of the classpath. Acquire that and your problem will be solved

set classpath with fully qualified path of jar file and try again.

Agree with CEHJ and Krishna.

You will need to add absolute path to the jar (including name of jar file) in a classpath.
