Windows 8.1 PRO -- Windows XP dual boot / virtual machine ?

I trashed my old Windows XP machine years ago.

I now have a need to install some OLD software from
a company that no longer exists, therefore I cannot
get the Windows 8.1 version.

What XP dual boot or virtual machine
solution do you recommend ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Add the Client Hyper-V role to your Windows 8.1 Pro host, and create a Windows XP virtual machine, keep XP clean and isolated, from your Windows 8.1 installation.

I concur that you should add Hyper-V role.  If you want something with a smaller footprint, you could try VirtualBox.

I use XP guests in a Windows 8 Host with Virtualbox all the time works great.

If you happen to have a Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate License or PC, you could also just install Windows XP mode on it, that is free. XP mode runs under m$ Virtual PC, but you can also convert it to VMware Workstation Player. You just need to run it on a Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate/Enterprise host.
