We have recently migrated a customer to Office 365 from on-premise exchange. They have done a complete cut over, without any sort of hybrid solution. Currently there is no dirsync or any other synchronisation from AD to Office 365, although this is something they would like to implement shortly.
What I would like to do is completely decommission the Exchange 2010 server. I would like to start by safely uninstalling exchange (removing it from AD) before shutting down the server before it is re purposed.... However, I need advice in what is the best way to do this?
Is it as simple as uninstalling the program from add/remove programs? Probably not! :). Autodiscover has been manually pointed to office 365 in sites and services, but when users sign into outlook the mail information is still auto populated with the old exchange info, but outlook looks out to o365 for the mailbox when you click next (you can then change the username & password).
It is worth mentioning that all the mailboxes from the exchange have been backed up and archived through powertools so there really is no need for the exchange box at all any more.
Thanks in advance for your help :)
