Stateful firewall thoughput

Hi Experts,

I was comparing a few different products from Meraki and I was looking at these two listed below:

https://meraki.cisco.com/products/appliances/mx80
https://meraki.cisco.com/products/appliances/mx100

I am a bit confused as to what the stateful firewall throughput is referring to? the second model has 3 times the same throughput. a massive increase from 250mbps to 750mbps

all the best,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

A Stateful Firewall needs to analyze and keep record of TCP/IP "sessions", to match response packets to request packets. This match is required
a) to allow requests to come in without having to comply to firewall filters
b) to allow skipping any further validity check (firewall, attack behaviour), and so speed up transfer.

Depending on the hardware layout, that analysis runs in hardware or software, and the hardware determines the speed at which this can be done. Also sessions need to be checked for timeout, to protect from spoofed traffic.
