Wordpress Site -- individual logins

I've created wordpress sites before but I don't do it often.
I'm fine with installing wordpress on the server (Linux) and getting it up and running.

What I need help with is this. I need to create a basic site (easy), but then have it be private, meaning I would either send out different usernames/passwords or respond to requests for acesss,  to anyone who wanted to log into it the site.
It can't be just one username/password though for the whole site as we want to track who logs in and how often they do.

I'm assuming this isn't that uncommon a need and probably relatively easy with some plugins or modules?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.
