SQL Server 2012 last SP2 patch

I haven't really applied SP packs before and I couldn't find a very clear reference on the net on how to do it.

What I have is a Failover cluster with Always On with 2 SQL sever 2012 SP 1 nodes on Windows Server 2012 SP2 OS, and  and I want to apply the last SP2 pack, which is CU8, on both of them.

Do I need to apply SP2 only first or I can go directly with SP2 CU8?

Any concerns due to cluster environment? I found reference about how to apply updates on a cluster but I would like any input from someone that has done this before and especially in regards from SP1 to SP2 later packs.

Thank you!

Service Packs has all patches and hotfixes since RTM version.
Cumulative Updates only has all hotfixes since the respective Service Pack.
So you'll need to apply both, first SP2 and then CU8. And you need to do it in every single node and I recommend you to start with the secondary replica instance and let the primary replica for the end.

I have an issue with PLE sudden drop, which seems to be known with SQL 2012 SP1. I found on the net that teh fix for that is SP1 CU4 hotfix.

Will that be included into SP2 pack, or do I need to apply it before SP2?

Another question would be if I should apply these updates manually or through the Windows Updates process.

It's included in SP2 --> "Service Packs has all patches and hotfixes since RTM version."

You can control better when applied manually but Windows Updates will do that for you in an automatically way.
