Track acvivity of a user mailbox

One of our stake holder found all his inbox emails in deleted. We are using exchange 2010 and outlook 2013. How do I know what happened to his emails. There are no rules in outlook nor any rules in exchange.

We have verbose logging enabled. How do I track what happened?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi, I fear there is no way to track what has happened to those emails. Exchange can log what is going on the server, i. e. which mails are sent and received but it will - at least by default - not log what is happening in a users mailbox.

So which options do you have?

1) Look for those emails in other folders in the mailbox, also "Deleted Items".

2) If you cannot find them, right-click the Deleted Items folder and try to restore Deleted Items.

3) Do a restore with Exchange Recovery Database:

And always keep in mind that someone may delete their mails intentionally for whatever reason.

I hope this helps.

You need to enable mailbox auditing.  Then you can track the changes.

Now you cannot find anything, why it was deleted and who deleted.
