create a timer in excel

Does anyone know of a easy way to create a timer in a excel worksheet that will count up?  I tried following instructions from some Google results.. without any luck...  Need to create in Excel 2010 and Excel 2013.

thanks

Hi

I think the only way to achieve that is using VBScript. Try http://smallbusiness.chron.com/create-timer-excel-29834.html

Thanks

This will add 1 to cell A1 every second. To get it started run StartTimer.

Option Explicit

Private mbTimerOn As Boolean
Sub StartTimer()
    Start_Timer
End Sub

Private Sub Start_Timer()
    mbTimerOn = True
    Application.OnTime Now() + TimeValue("00:00:01"), "Timer"
End Sub

Private Sub Stop_Timer()
    mbTimerOn = False
End Sub

Private Sub Timer()
    If mbTimerOn Then
        ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Value = ActiveSheet.Range("A1").Value + 1
        Application.OnTime Now() + TimeValue("00:00:01"), "Timer"
    End If
End Sub

@sktneer   No Idea how to tweak the code.. this would be prefect if the timer was right in the top left corner starting at A1 and the cells still showed up when file was opened.

Did you try my code? If so and it didn't do what you wanted then please let me know what it should do.
