Terminology Definition: Internal Time Server

I stumbled across some terminology earlier that stated the following 'internal time server'. it wasn't in particularly good context and a google does show up much more either.

my question is simple. what is an internal time server?

Internal time server is reference the CMOS time clock on the device. It could also be referencing PDC time server which is the time source for all domain machines.

Depending on the context, it could mean different things.  When referring to a Windows domain, this term would usually mean the domain controller that holds the PDC Emulator role. By default, with some additional configuration, the DC holding that role becomes the time server for all other computers on the domain.
