Are you using WSUS ??

If so---Is the group policy pointing to the correct spelling of your WSUS server ??

I have used WSUS but the notebook is not in domain anymore.
There is a GPO for WSUS. It could be a second question. How did I remove the policy?

If I try to get updates from windows I got the error.

You would just need to delete this registry key

HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate

I have check the hosts file. Maybee the error 0x80072ee7 is before I delete HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate (see early post)

"The log shows the error 0x80072EE7 in several places. "  ?????

You're supposed to read windowsupdate.log from the bottom up!!!

Error 0x80072EE7 is the result of not being able to reach WSUS. This was resolved by deleting the registry keys previously mentioned.

The latest error is 0x8024a005 which suggests to run the system update readiness tool
