Distribution group

In a Hybrid environment with Exchange onprem with local AD and online, which is the recommended way to create a group.
We can either create a group in AD,Exchange or online but I am interested to know the MS recommended way for group creation.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello,

This is the kind of answers that will start with... It depends...
Because both methods are fully supported and the recommendation is inclined more to objective and administrative purposes than anything else.

It looks that in your case you are already synchronizing objects to O365, so your structure is already configured. Most of the time, there is less administrative overhead creating the groups on-premises and synchronizing them as far as they just need to be created once, maintained (modified) once and eliminated once. With this I mean that if you don't sync your groups, and for some reason you are going to use them locally as well as security groups, then you will work twice.

On the other hand, another point could be focus on administrative perspectives. Where is it easier, more reliable or even more customizable to create your DL group objects. If you are synchronizing your DLs from your AD, and for some reason your connector or your server is not available (Or the access is more difficult) it will become more complicated to complete that simple task as working with DLs, if you are just working from O365 you can manage it from everywhere, even your smartphone.

At the end there are many options with each mode that the recommendation will depend on your preferences and/or the ones of your business.
