Meraki Cisco

Dear All

I am planing to buy several Merak firewalls MX64 or MX80, I have 6 sites that I want to connect together via site to site. From what I have read this is possible but I wanted to see what your thoughts are.

If you can revert back I would be most grateful.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

yes Meraki MX will do site to site VPN. The main reason I would steer you away from that choice would be if you have multiple vlans per site and want to get picky about what computers on what vlans are allowed to communicate across the VPN to which other vlans. The layer 3 firewall rules leave much to be desired.

If however you just want to make it feel like one big lan with everyone allowed to go everywhere, Meraki is a great choice. In addition to being easy to setup you get great visibility into your network and good control at layer 7.

I am just looking at creating one big LAN between the sites. I am not up to scratch on my layer of the firewall but it looks like it will do what I need.

Layer 2 - computers in the same subnet talking
Layer 3 - when leaving the subnet a computer talks to the gateway (router) to get to a different subnet.
Layer 7 - application layer. So you can bandwidth limit or block streaming audio in a Meraki very easily.
