I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

learning the language is easy.. learning the programming mindset is difficult. You require a lot of attention to detail and sometimes it requires a lot of coding to get from what you see in your mind to what is attainable on the screen. Each platform has its strengths and weaknesses and a preferred way of doing something.  I'd start with javascript but you eventually will have to learn C or C++ and how to read each manufacturers documentation on the API calls available for you.

Look at Meteor.  It is a full-stack (MEAN) installation.  You write all client and server code in JavaScript.  You can create smart-phone applications as well as I/O to web browsers.

You are trying to take one giant step, w/o it might be better to take several small steps.

Look at AppInventor from MIT:    http://appinventor.mit.edu/explore/

Easiest way to get started for Android.  And a working prototype is a good way to start any project.
