Unable to login to vcenter server: The remote server returned an error 404 Not Found

Hello All,

I have setup an ESXi lab with in a physical host, hosting two nested ESXi hosts. All this hosts are version 5.1
I have created a Windows server 2012 R2 virtual machine (which I promoted to DC) at the physical host level and another Windows server 2012 R2 to install vcenter server. I have joined this machine to the domain.

I had to install the vcenter server in the Windows server 2012 R2 utilizing the media for version 6 because I can't find the media for the vcenter server for 5.1. The installation was successful and now I am trying access the vcenter server using vsphere client from my computer as I accessed all host directly but I am getting the attached error when trying to sign in.

What could be happening? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Andrew! I am trying to login just with the IP address assigned to the vcenter server.

I don't recall installing a web client in the process, how can I confirm that and the URL?
you state error 404, is this using a Web Browser ?

Got it! I just installed a fresh copy of vSphere Center 6 on a different 2012 VM. I was attempting to do several things on the old vm that might've corrupted some components.

Thanks Andrew!

VMware, a software company founded in 1998, was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies. VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture. Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.
