How do I update a IPAD2 - model A1396 - 64 GB (WIFI/GSM) - IOS 4.3.5
How do I update a IPAD2 - model A1396 - 64 GB (WIFI/GSM) - IOS 4.3.5?
Have today talked with Apple for 2 hours and they can’t help!
The MAC comes with error 9 and Apple believe it has to do with that the IOS
(4.3.5) are to old. An old IOS can’t talk with Itunes (12.3.1.23) then and they can’t help.
Apple say they are not allowed to help with a lower IOS!
Can anybody help me update the IPAD to an older IOS (ex. IOS 6.0) ?
Which I then can update again by WIFI or Itunes to IOS 9.1?

What version of iTunes would you suggest I select?
One from the same or next year that you bought your iPad.
For ex, if the iPad is from 2012, get a version of iTunes 11.

Didn’t help - tried on PC.
Now using Itunes 11.4.0.18 - 64 bit
A little info - I can only pick – reinstall (not possible to choice update)
When holding the shift down and using the downloaded IPSW file (iPad2,2_8.3_12F69_Restore .ipsw) – I get an error 3194
Then I tried direct IPSW from Apple’s Itunes and then get error 9 – which apple earlier has told me mean can’t contact Apples servers – and earlier I have tried all also without firewall and anti-virus – same error – so believe this is not the error.
Anybody got an idea if there are other solutions to this error ?

Anyone ? :)
I'll assume that you can connect to the Internet using WiFi.
If so then follow the instructions here https://support.apple.com/en-nz/HT204204

Hard reset the iPad2 before doing this.
Try iTunes 10.6.3 and the Pad 2 (3G) ipsw – iPad2,2_5.1.1_9B206_Restor e.ipsw of iOS 5.1.1 to move on
You'll need a fresh install of iTunes - don't install it over a newer version you'll get a mix of component versions
Apple still keep 10.6.3 for MacOS or Win64
You then run iTunes connect up your iPad and point the updater to the ipsw file as if you've just downloaded it as an over the air update. Same way as it sounds like you've been trying.
Then upgrade iTunes to 11.05 and you can move to iOS7 on the iPad 2 and so on - you'll probably need three separate jumps to get you up to 9.1

The ipad 2 only has partial support above the 5.x series... It could break more than it fixes...
The 1st Gen iPad will only update to 5.1.1 - we're looking at a 3G iPad2 - I have one of these and it's running 9.1 with no problem (and a lot better than it did 8!).

Sorry, I'd forgotten this ! *L*
Was the iPad Jailbroken at some point?
It might be worth checking if iTunes has added an entry to your PC HOSTS file to 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com
Deleting that might help but the unknown error 3194 can represent pretty much any unplanned failure with the existing iOS version.
It maybe we have to deliberately jailbreak first and then put it back together again

No never – direct out of the box with 4.3.5 for 2+ year since and never updated before and not jailbroken!
The Host file is clean and was last updated before I tried your solutions!
127.0.0.1 localhost
How could I jailbreak the IPAD if that is the only solution left?

First see if you can simply replace 4.3.5 and refresh it with this ipsw
http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-1961.20110721.zigyd/iPad2,2_4.3.5_8L1_Restore.ipsw
If you get no joy then counter-intuitively try downgrading to 4.3.3
http://appldnld.apple.com/iPhone4/041-1013.20110503.1m73D/iPad2,2_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw
NB these are only for the GSM iPad2

Cant get it to work :(
After that, download an image of the update for your iPad from here: http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/how-install-ios-8-3-update-manually-iphone-ipad-ipod-touch-1495514
Then follow the steps to manually update your device.
